METEORAGE, the world leader in thunderstorm and lightning detection and decision support services, is partnering with TROPOSFERICA, a company specialising in weather forecasting services for all sectors sensitive to storm risk, with the aim of reducing the risks generated by these dangerous, sometimes even destructive, phenomena.

METEORAGE and TROPOSFERICA have signed an agreement to strengthen the use of solutions dedicated to public and private actors, ensuring that users benefit from cutting-edge technology based on recognised global expertise and the most accurate data available. The aim of this collaboration is to provide Spanish professionals with specific solutions for proactive lightning risk management.

Thunderstorms represent a significant environmental and safety risk for both professionals and the public. As a reminder, in Spain there are about 260 days of thunderstorms per year. With more than 616,700 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes detected by the METEORAGE network, 2023 ranks second among the years with the most lightning strikes, just behind 2018, which holds the record with 683,000 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes recorded.

METEORAGE brings its unique expertise in thunderstorm and lightning detection, based on a network of high-performance sensors and sophisticated analysis algorithms. TROPOSFERICA leverages its engineering and consulting expertise to offer customized solutions tailored to the specific needs of its customers.

This partnership illustrates the commitment of METEORAGE and TROPOSFERICA to provide innovative and effective solutions for lightning risk management in Spain.

“This strategic partnership with TROPOSFERICA will allow us to offer Spanish stakeholders a comprehensive and cutting-edge solution for the prevention of lightning risks. Our goal is to contribute to the safety of people and property by minimising the impact of lightning on critical infrastructures” concludes Dominique Lapeyre de Chavardès, President of METEORAGE, on the importance of this initiative for both parties.

Román LLAGOSTERA, CEO of TROPOSFERICA, highlights the impact of this collaboration: “It is a strategic collaboration that strengthens the synergies between both companies, combining their experience and technology to improve atmospheric monitoring. This alliance aims to offer more advanced solutions in the detection of storms and meteorological phenomena, which will allow our clients to increase safety and precision in the management of meteorological and climatic risks both in urban and rural and mountain areas.”
